Ant & Dec...

Within the production of Red or Black Ant and Dec’s roles are to be the presenters of the show, they are: the people who explain the elements of the game show, they are the main people seen onscreen, give out the facts and opinions and also link the parts of the show together.
As this is a game show Ant and Dec are the main people that are going to be seen throughout the whole programme so they will need to be friendly, happy and inviting to the viewer’s so this will be shown by the way they present themselves and the way that they speak. In Red and Black Ant and Dec use formal language and have a serious tone as this is a game show they will use formal language to get the point of the game across to the players and audience but also so that people understand what they are talking about. To open the show Ant and Dec will have to be loud as there is a crowd, they also have to work together to get the information across to the audience and viewers at home. Ant and Dec change the tone of their voices throughout the show: the beginning of the show they will speak louder and inviting, then whenever anything entertaining is happening they will sound happy and enthusiastic though whenever it comes to a serious part of the show there voices will become stern and serious. As this show is aired on ITV1 there are a range of audiences that will watch the show and as it is a family show the range of vocab and language they will use will have to vary, they will not be able to use complex words and very educated types of language as some of the audience may not understand what they are trying to explain. Ant and Dec both have an accent as they are both from Newcastle however they have made sure that there accents aren’t too strong as some people find it hard to understand what they are trying to say though the good thing about Ant and Dec having accents is that they can relate to the audience and there accents suit the target audience of the show. I think that Ant and Dec have been chosen for this role as they have worked along side each other throughout there careers and they are known for being game show hosts, they will have more experience hosting game shows than Jeremy Kyle would.

The two presenters are wearing suits to the audience they will look smart and as this show is aired at night time there suits will look like formal evening wear. The reason they will be wearing suits compared to the contestants is because they are the main people on the show and are the people who already have a lot of money (wealthy). As they are the people that know about the game and are the celebrities they will be dressed in suits to make them seem 'above' others. Another reason why they would wear suits is to show that they are responsible.Another reason why they may be wearing suits is because as this programme is broadcast on ITV1 this channel is for all ages and genders as they have a range of programmes and this is also a family show so to not appeal to one specific kind of audience a suit will appeal to everyone, for example if they were to dress with glasses hanging off a chain, waistcoat and a suit they may then make the show appeal to the elderly. Throughout the show Ant and Dec use different facial expressions which sometimes portray how the audience will be for example if someone gets something wrong or doesn't win within the show they will show sympathetic emotions and expressions which is how the people at how will be reacting. As well as facial expressions Ant and Dec also use body language to engage and to also make the audience feel part of the show, an example of some of the body language that Ant and Dec use are hand gestures when opening the show they will be pointing towards the camera and also clasping there hands together as though they are greeting the audience to the show.

We are likely to see the presenter in a studio as again this is a family show they can create the studio to appeal to all ages and genders. The target audience for the presenters is categories E to C1 as these two presenters are well known however they would not appeal to the higher categories as they themselves to do not present themselves like the people of that category would. In terms of VALS categories this could be any category as this channel has different shows throughout the day for different audiences and the presenters fit into different VALS categories.

In comparison to Red and Black Ant and Dec also present other shows for example 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'. On this show Ant and Dec act differently as they are speaking to a different audience and this is a different style of game show. On Im A Celeb Ant and Dec are not wearing suits as this show is set in the Australian Rain Forrest so they are wearing more comfortable and relaxed clothing such as Jeans, T-shirt and a Blazer. When listening and watching how they speak Ant and Dec speak differently to as they do in Red or Black as on Im A Celeb only parts of the show is scripted and the script isnt as formal so Ant and Dec speak as though they are having a conversation between themselves and the viewers. This shows that they are able to present different shows and portray themselves differently depending on the show.

The Jonathan Ross Show...

The roll of Jonathan Ross within the production of The Jonathan Ross Show is to be the presenter of the show, the presenter’s job is to interview the guests and as them questions that will be informative for the audience as this is a chat show.
As this is a chat show host Jonathan Ross doesn’t put on a specific voice or accent, he speaks in his normal day to day voice which it is easy to pick up that he has a lisp, though Jonathan changes the tone of his voice depending on the subject he will be speaking about he will do this to show the guest that he is sympathetic or whatever he is trying to portray and to also allow the audience to understand what the type of question he is going to ask. As The Jonathan Ross show is aired on ITV1 there is a wider audience that this channel is aimed towards as throughout the day and night there are a mixture of audiences so Jonathan uses a wider range of audiences using complex and non-complex vocab, this will also depend on the type of guest he is interviewing. For example in the video clip above Jonathan is interviewing an 18 year old Tom Daley so he will not be using as much complex vocab and language towards him however If he was interviewing someone well educated he would change some of the vocab to suit the person. I feel that Jonathan has been selected to present the show as it is his show (hence the name) and also he is able to engage with the guest and make the show entertaining for the audience at home to watch.
Within each episode Jonathan will be wearing a suit and tie which is formal wear he will be wearing a suit as this show is usually aired at 10pm which is evening so wearing formal evening wear will be appropriate for the time. Also as the main guests on the show are celebrities so Jonathan has to wear suitable clothing to make a lasting impression on the guests. As I said before ITV has a range of audiences of different ages and genders so by Jonathan wearing a suit he is not directly showing which audience this show should be suitable for, for example if he was to be wearing a t-shirt and jeans he could be appealing more towards the youth so a suit will be appealing to all audience types. As on this show Jonathan Ross talks to different types of celebrity guests each having different stories to tell and different questions to be asked so depending on what questions are being asked Jonathan uses different facial expressions. Within this clip when Tom Daley is showing his medal Jonathan is happy, smiling and being friendly towards the teen though when talking about Tom losing his dad Jonathan tilts his head he shows sympathy and also touches his chin as though he is listening to what Tom has to say. As just explained Jonathan uses body language that ties in with the expressions he uses such as the head tilting when Jonathan is being sympathetic he will tilt his head showing that he is sympathetic, he also uses his hands when talking to the guests to show who he is directly speaking to and to also show that he is in control of the questions. The way Jonathan Ross presents himself, uses facial expressions and his body language is appropriate to the audience as the audience is of mixed ages and genders so the way he looks will have to be appropriate to each kind of person and Jonathan displays this well and also the facial expressions are linked into the audience how we would react to a story e.g. Tom losing his dad to a brain tumour we would look sympathetic so Jonathan portrays how we at home react. Jonathan Ross has also helped present Comic Relief when presenting this show Jonathon changes the way he acts and presents. Jonathan still wears a suit like in The Jonathan Ross show however as this is not a chat show and is about charities Jonathan is serious and more formal in his tone and posture. In The Jonathan Ross show Jonathan sits down at a desk and leans towards the guests and also interacts with the guests however in Comic Relief Jonathan has to stand upright and read off a script and talk into the camera, also Jonathan will use formal language and not slang as this show is about a serious matter.
The Jonathan Ross Show is presented within a studio and there hasn’t been a time where Jonathan isn’t within the studio as this is where the whole chat show is based as celebrities are interviewed on the couch. This specific clip of Jonathan Ross will appeal to people from the E to A categories and all the VALS as within this specific episode he is mainly speaking to the Olympic athletes which was a Global event however depending on the type of guest the social economics and VALS could change although mainly I would say that the audience range would be E to C1.
Jameela Jamil and Rick Edwards...

Within T4 presenting Jameela Jamil works with other presenter and also on her own at times, she is on the show to entertain the audience and to also get information across to the audience as well.
Jameela and Rick speaks their usual accent and that she isn’t putting on a specific accent for the role as within this show the main age range is 16-24 year olds so as Jameela and Rick are the same as the target audience she is able to speak the way they usually would as they already appeals to the target audience the show is aimed towards. The language and vocab they use within the show is the type of language the audience would use the language isn’t top class educated language but is language for educated youths as they use words such as theatrical. Also within the show Rick says ‘let’s get this right’ this appeals to the audience as if this show was for A and B social class they would have used more complex words this is sort of a slang laid back term to get across what is happening. I think that these presenters have been selected to present together on this show as they have good chemistry on the show as they are both sat close together and not one of them is placed to the back and that they are both able to appeal to the audience with the type of tone in their language.
The presenters are wearing casual clothes as Rick is wearing a denim rolled up shirt and t-shirt and Jameela is wearing a dress and heeled boots, by wearing these clothes they are appealing and linking to the audience that this show is aimed at as this would appeal to experiencers as the presenters are youthful and wearing new clothing. The two presenters use facial expressions that are happy and cheerful as they are constantly smiling to the guests as the programme isn’t as formal and hard hitting so they won’t need to be asking very in depth personal questions so they won’t need strong facial expressions this show is more relaxed so the presenters can have more relaxed facial expressions.  When looking at the two presenters they have good body language between the two of them as they are both sat with their shoulders touching showing that both of them are in control not just one of them. Jameela and Rick both use their hands when asking the questions to the guests this shows that the questions they are asking is aimed at the three guests that they have on the show showing that they are in control of the questions and that the questions are aimed directly at the guests, also when showing clips and introducing the guests both presenters clap and engage the studio audience which when looking at the camera this is as though they are clapping to the viewers at home which is showing that you should become excited in the guests and to also engage you at home. Being close together and sat on the couch shows that the show has a casual approach to the show.
This show is always presented in the T4 studio which is bright and colourful that appeals to the target audience and straight away you are able to tell which audience this show is based for. The target audience for this show within the social economic scale is D and E and is based towards experiencers as the presenters are youthful and are wearing and speaking about new things that would be based towards experiencers.

Gordon Burns BBC North West News...

Gordon Burns job within the production is to deliver the news to the audience that is watching and to inform people of the goings on, he is a main asset to the production as without him people wouldn't have the knowledge of the local news.
Gordon Burns speaks with pauses in his sentences as he is reading the news from an autocue, he speaks in a steady pace so that the audience are able to understand what is going on and take it in, he also speaks in a serious tone however he will adapt the way he speaks depending on the news that he is reading in the clip he is speaking about politics so will speak serious though if he was speaking about the William and Kate marriage he will adapt his speech and change the tone to be more relaxed and happy. The language that Gordon will use is formal words however these won’t be as formal as channel 4 news as the audience that would watch BBC1 is wider than channel 4 as there are children’s programmes and teenage programmes also aired on this channel, Gordon also has a steady pace when reading the news this is because he will have to pronounce all of his words and if he was to read fast the audience may not understand what he is saying so reading steadily every audience will be able to follow what he is saying. However the news that Gordon Burns presents for is BBC North West which means that only a smaller audience will watch this news as its a local area and his accent could be slightly regional.
Gordon Burns (the presenter) is wearing a suit and tie so he looks formal and professional as he is going to be delivering the news and will need to be taken seriously. Gordon will not show any facial expressions when reading the news for example if he was to be smiling when reading about a politic matter this could make him come across as happy about matter or not taking the news seriously, also if he was to portray the wrong facial expressions he could come across as bias. Gordon does not use a lot of body language when reading the news from the table as he just needs to get the news across to the audience though when he is interviewing David Cameron he uses hand gestures for example pointing at David Cameron with his hands shows that he is giving the questions directly to David and shows his authority that it is him who is asking the questions. Also when interviewing Gordon has his legs crossed over and is leaned slightly on the arm of the couch to show that the interview will have a relaxed atmosphere and that he is not going to be firing quick fire questions at David Cameron also doing this will make David feel more comfortable to answer questions. The body language Gordon Burns portrays is appropriate to the audience the audience will know that the news that is going to be read is formal and as this is appropriate to the type of audience that will be watching this news also the body language within the interview is showing the audience that the information he wants to be giving out is meant to be aimed towards David and that they understand. Even though the news is serious if there is a light hearted story on the news or a fun story Gordon is able to change his body language and tone to show that this is a fun story whether this is using hand gestures and smiling with a more upbeat tone to his words.
As this is a news programme we are most likely to see Gordon within a studio set where the news is filmed each time however sometimes a news package could be created where one of the news readers would have gone out and filmed something.  The type of audience that this would appeal to is E to C1 in the social economic scale as Gordon would appeal to the elderly as he may appeal to their age group however also as this is the news this could also appeal to office workers and more, this programme is on around 6:30 meaning that people would have finished work and will just be settling down. Within the VALS category this type of news broadcast would appeal to Survivors as they are the elderly and thinkers as thinkers like to be informed with what’s going on locally.
The Jeremy Kyle Show...

The Jeremy Kyle show is a chat show, within this production Jeremy Kyle’s role is to be the presenter of the chat show he is the person to ask the questions and be in contact with the guests and also the audience.

Within The Jeremy Kyle show there are different guests each time and each person with a different story to tell so Jeremy has to adapt the way he speaks to whatever the person. For example if there was a woman who had been beaten up by her husband he will have to speak in a sympathetic way, then if there was the woman’s husband who beat her he will have to then begin to speak firm and sternly towards the man. The vocab that Jeremy uses as the presenter has to appeal to a wider audience as this programme is aired on ITV1 which has a wider audience so he has to appeal to a wide audience using some complex vocab and also use slang. Jeremy doesn’t have a strong accent however I feel he has been selected as he has a clear voice that would be able to be understood by the wide audience that ITV has for example if you were to put a Geordie as the presenter some people would find it hard to understand what they are trying to say. Jermey has a south east accent and is middle class he is able to cast judgement on the people as he is better than them and as the people watching at home some people may be stay at home mums and retired so what he says is what to hear as some of the people watching the show are better than they guests.

Jeremy (the presenter) wears a suit in every episode he is in though to make the show more relaxed he doesn’t wear a tie and unbuttons the top button to make the atmosphere of the show slightly more relaxed and to also appeal to the audience more. Within the show Jeremy portrays different emotions and facial expressions depending on the story the guest has to tell him an example of this is when the man who had a tattoo of a skull on his whole face, when talking to the woman he looked sympathetic and curious however when the man entered his face changed to look surprised and shocked portraying what the audience was thinking and everyone that was watching was thinking. Jeremy has presented another programme before which is different to a chat show he presented the game show 'High Stakes' in the game show Jeremy also wears a suit. In High Stakes Jeremys language is more formal and serious as this is a game show instead of the language he uses in The Jeremy Kyle Show because there is a different mood to the show and target audience. Jeremy uses a lot of body language in the show like he uses facial expressions the body language used changes depending on the type of guest that is on, when Jeremy is trying to prove a point or directly talking to one person angrily he will point at the person and kneel down to them or also stand close to them intimidating the person showing that he has the authority. However if Jeremy is being sympathetic he tilts his head in sympathy and also places his hand on his chin showing he is interested in what they have to say and to also show he is listening. The way Jeremy looks and presents himself is appropriate to the audience as the audience is mixed ages he cannot be dressed in a casual way as this may make the show feel as though it is only for youthful people though if he was to be dressed in a waistcoat and tie he may not appeal to the younger audience or elderly as they may feel that the show is then for business people and office workers (C1 category).

We are most likely to see the presenter in the ITV studios where the show is mainly set unless there is a special episode where Jeremy will visit places or revisit a family.  The audience that this show appeals to are: survivors as this is a daytime show the unemployed and elderly shall be able to catch the show and also experiencers as the people that come on the show have to be over the age of 16 so it could appeal to the youthful audience if there age group is going to be involved in the show. In the social economic scale this show is aimed towards D and E categories.
