Within the production of Red or Black Ant and Dec’s roles are to be the presenters of the show, they are: the people who explain the elements of the game show, they are the main people seen onscreen, give out the facts and opinions and also link the parts of the show together.
As this is a game show Ant and Dec are the main people that are going to be seen throughout the whole programme so they will need to be friendly, happy and inviting to the viewer’s so this will be shown by the way they present themselves and the way that they speak. In Red and Black Ant and Dec use formal language and have a serious tone as this is a game show they will use formal language to get the point of the game across to the players and audience but also so that people understand what they are talking about. To open the show Ant and Dec will have to be loud as there is a crowd, they also have to work together to get the information across to the audience and viewers at home. Ant and Dec change the tone of their voices throughout the show: the beginning of the show they will speak louder and inviting, then whenever anything entertaining is happening they will sound happy and enthusiastic though whenever it comes to a serious part of the show there voices will become stern and serious. As this show is aired on ITV1 there are a range of audiences that will watch the show and as it is a family show the range of vocab and language they will use will have to vary, they will not be able to use complex words and very educated types of language as some of the audience may not understand what they are trying to explain. Ant and Dec both have an accent as they are both from Newcastle however they have made sure that there accents aren’t too strong as some people find it hard to understand what they are trying to say though the good thing about Ant and Dec having accents is that they can relate to the audience and there accents suit the target audience of the show. I think that Ant and Dec have been chosen for this role as they have worked along side each other throughout there careers and they are known for being game show hosts, they will have more experience hosting game shows than Jeremy Kyle would.
The two presenters are wearing suits to the audience they will look smart and as this show is aired at night time there suits will look like formal evening wear. The reason they will be wearing suits compared to the contestants is because they are the main people on the show and are the people who already have a lot of money (wealthy). As they are the people that know about the game and are the celebrities they will be dressed in suits to make them seem 'above' others. Another reason why they would wear suits is to show that they are responsible.Another reason why they may be wearing suits is because as this programme is broadcast on ITV1 this channel is for all ages and genders as they have a range of programmes and this is also a family show so to not appeal to one specific kind of audience a suit will appeal to everyone, for example if they were to dress with glasses hanging off a chain, waistcoat and a suit they may then make the show appeal to the elderly. Throughout the show Ant and Dec use different facial expressions which sometimes portray how the audience will be for example if someone gets something wrong or doesn't win within the show they will show sympathetic emotions and expressions which is how the people at how will be reacting. As well as facial expressions Ant and Dec also use body language to engage and to also make the audience feel part of the show, an example of some of the body language that Ant and Dec use are hand gestures when opening the show they will be pointing towards the camera and also clasping there hands together as though they are greeting the audience to the show.
We are likely to see the presenter in a studio as again this is a family show they can create the studio to appeal to all ages and genders. The target audience for the presenters is categories E to C1 as these two presenters are well known however they would not appeal to the higher categories as they themselves to do not present themselves like the people of that category would. In terms of VALS categories this could be any category as this channel has different shows throughout the day for different audiences and the presenters fit into different VALS categories.
In comparison to Red and Black Ant and Dec also present other shows for example 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'. On this show Ant and Dec act differently as they are speaking to a different audience and this is a different style of game show. On Im A Celeb Ant and Dec are not wearing suits as this show is set in the Australian Rain Forrest so they are wearing more comfortable and relaxed clothing such as Jeans, T-shirt and a Blazer. When listening and watching how they speak Ant and Dec speak differently to as they do in Red or Black as on Im A Celeb only parts of the show is scripted and the script isnt as formal so Ant and Dec speak as though they are having a conversation between themselves and the viewers. This shows that they are able to present different shows and portray themselves differently depending on the show.
